Most of you know that since that long-ago press conference of Warren and Brian's, I and several other students and faculty at Xavier's have continued the work they started. Of primary importance are our efforts to make sure that those at this school who want to be publicly known as mutants can do so in ways that suit their personality and needs, but also the safety and secrecy of Xavier's as a whole. It's involved a lot of inconvenience for those who've chosen to go public: less time in Salem Center so as not to draw attention, extra care when returning to Xavier's especially after a public event, and increased cybersecurity when it comes to online events just for starters. But the benefits have been obvious when it comes to the public face of mutantkind so far--and hey, we all got free bus passes out of the deal*.
With the increasing number of students 'coming out', however, these measures may not be enough. Questions might be asked. How do you know each other? Where did you meet? How did you have the connections to get an interview with Anderson Cooper or talk to the US State Department about previous charges of terrorism? That kind of thing. Of course, the answers to many potential questions leads back to Xavier's, through direct or indirect means, and none of us wants that.
And so, I've created a kind of ghost company, a non-profit called X-statiX, to explain everything away. But more than being a shell to protect us and our safe haven, I hope that X-statiX can also serve as an in for mutants out there who need to hook into the community and the support it can offer--again, without putting us and what we have at risk. If you're curious, most of the information is here.
In closing, I know I haven't been around much for the last month, what with all the traveling. But I'm back from the UK now and staying put for the school year. Any questions, feel free to knock on my faux-office door or drop me an email.

*Time for renewals, by the way. Stop by during office hours for your new one, or just hang out after math class for a moment. Thanks to the daCosta family for that.
