Xavier's Fencing Club

Anyone interested? I know we have a few enthusiasts, and possibly a few willing to learn. We could get together once a week to hold bouts, teach basics, and take pointers from one another on different styles.

Ben and I practice together all the time and it would be great to have more people involved. I can fence with either hand and have been learning how to use my tail.

That's. Wow. I can only just use the one hand, so I'd say that's a definite advantage.

A bit of an unfair advantage maybe. :) I have the fortune of being ambidextrous.

What style do you generally use? I favor the sabre myself.

Have you been fencing long?

Since I was seven, though not very competitively. My studies always came first. What about you?

Since I was ten. I started with practice and prop swords until I got my first sabre when I was twelve. I did not fence competitively either. It was only for fun and I could only practice when chores, homeschooling, and practicing my circus acts were all done.

I admit, just practicing without any constraints, instructors, or rules does have a certain appeal to it. What do you think about meeting on Saturdays?

It does! It should be fun, I think. :)

Saturdays could work for me. I have practice for the play right now, but that is not every Saturday.

Fencing is the one with swords that aren't actually sharp, right? That's the way Brian explained it to me, anyway...

For the most part, yes. Some of the swords in fencing can develop metal splinters if they aren't kept in pristine condition, so holding the blade is not recommneded, but none of the swords are specifically sharp.

As far as skill goes, I am decent at it. I took lessons for three years, but have gotten out of practice, and I prefer sabre.
