om_angelFellow classmates,
A lot of you know me, and some of you not so much. My name is Warren Worthington, my code name is Angel, and I have a pair of wings on my back that sprouted four and a half years ago. Before arriving at the school, for four years, I had spent time keeping my wings tied down beneath my clothing in secret. Besides my parents, I only ever told one other person of my mutation and that secret has been kept completely quiet otherwise. Upon my arrival here, I was finally able to let my wings free. People can see them, they have complimented them, some people have even touched them, but most importantly I've been able to fly freely. I would love to keep flying freely.
For the last several months, in addition to my school work and training, I have been working with Lydia and Arthur in compiling numbers and statistical data from an analytical marketing perspective. From a sociological standpoint, we were interested in studying the possible reactions and ramifications of what could happen should mutants be public knowledge. What would happen if I no longer wanted to hide my wings in public, for example. Furthermore, would said public knowledge be more in our favour should we come out and be honest with it rather than having the rug pulled from beneath our feet by someone else? The more I read these numbers and discussed them with my friends, the more I realised that this very much could work in our favour after all.
Which is why Brian Braddock and I have decided to go public with our mutations.
That doesn't mean that we plan to out this school or anyone else in it. This is simply a personal decision that I've made on my own, but I would like to take every possible precaution to keep the school as the safe space that it is. With my father at the helm of an international corporation, I have the privilege and access to not only an organized public appearance with the press and publicists in New York City, but the financial means to ensure that there are security measures in place to prevent the story from tracing me back to this school. Rather, I would redirect that to my home in Long Island.
There are other fellow mutants here that are contributing to have those measures in place as well, most notably via electronic means. Tessa, in particular will be providing surveillance of any digital activity being directed toward this school while Arthur will continue to monitor and study public reaction.
We have continued to work on the analytical aspect of my announcement, and also to help organize this in a safe and efficient manner. Without a doubt there are people out there against us, and these are not the people I want to leave the fate of my identity in the hands of. I feel that by taking this matter into my own hands, I am able to accurately present myself to the public. Statistics have shown us throughout our study that people are much more likely to be open-minded and accepting of mutants if they know we are not defaulted as a threat or a menace to them. If they could see how useful and efficient our abilities are, and that we are everyday people as well as recognizable faces, then we have a much better chance. Some organizations and individuals may be more likely to paint us as something ugly and terrifying, so why should those people get the chance to speak for me first?
This is why I have made my personal decision. Along with Brian, I know there are others in the school who want to come forward publicly as well, including Jean-Paul and Jeanne-Marie Beaubier, and Alison Blaire. I wanted to give the student body a collective head's up and a chance to discuss this with me or to ask any questions. Lydia and Arthur will also be willing to speak with you about the statistical parts of our study.
Thank-you,
Angel
