I never thought I'd get to write this so soon, but I'm going to be coming back to New York on Saturday! Mama's recovery has been much quicker than anyone expected and we'll be able to afford the medication she needs to stay healthy for a long time. Thank you to everyone that offered me support during all of this; I can't express how much it meant or how much it helped. Sam was offered a management position at the mining company and he's going to be staying in Kentucky, but he did ask me to pass on his thanks and his love too.

I miss you all and I can't wait to see everyone! I won't be living at the institute for too long after I get back because I'll be moving in with Shinobi, but I plan to be a frequent visitor so I won't be disappearing again. Not a chance.

Good evening.

As you are all aware, the division of the student body into training squads and the activation of the Danger Gym represent a new phase in the faculty's efforts to assist us in refining our powers. For many, simply having a place to explore the more destructive or conspicuously supernormal aspects of these powers is sufficient. For others, access to an experienced mentor with similar gifts is the principal requirement for effective practical development. However, there are those with unique needs, needs which can be satisfied by neither of these options.

Our squad-mate, Incubus, requires minds to work with in order to explore and advance his gifts. Obviously, holograms and cardboard targets are not adequate to this purpose. Therefore, I am requesting volunteers for supervised, regular training sessions. I offer myself for this purpose, as well; however, as my brain functions atypically compared to the human norm, it is not likely that I constitute a suitable subject for what is intended to be a general-purpose regimen.

As we will be responsible for each other's safety in the field, I have elected to present this request to the squad for initial consideration. I realize that the prospect may not be personally appealing for many of you, but it is crucial to the future efficacy of our team in the field that Incubus be as highly trained and knowledgeable in the use of his abilities as those of us with less invasive enhancements.

I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to why you're getting this.

So the new boy, Damon? Part of his power set is that he can compel people to obey him, and he likes using it to indulge some baser instincts against other students. He tried it on Lydia; thankfully, she's immune to that sort of tampering.

Apparently, I'm not allowed to kill him for the attempt, so I'll settle for letting you guys know to keep clear and/or spread the word, preferably both.

I've been so busy getting all of my schoolwork done and everything ready that I almost forgot to mention I'm leaving tomorrow! I'll be heading back to Kentucky to see my family bright and early, so if anyone wants to do anything tonight before I go, just let me know. Otherwise, I'll be back on Saturday.

I'll miss you guys, but I've already missed three birthdays and if I skip out on Thanksgiving too I'm not sure they'll forgive me.

I've never had an 'online journal' before, so this is a first. But here goes. My name is Paige Guthrie, I'm sixteen, and I arrived a few days ago from Kentucky. I don't know what to expect here, but I've found the library and my room (102 East with Lil, who isn't that tall) and the track, so if you're looking for me that's probably where you'll find me. I'm looking for a job too, but nobody's hired me yet. I guess I don't speak 'barista' very well.
